First-generation students deserve to be celebrated, so it is important to ensure that there are dedicated campus-wide activities and events to honor their achievements and presence on college campuses nationally. November 8th has been designated the official national First-Generation Celebration Day, which has expanded to include a week or month long of activities.
To support program planning, the 2023 FGCC Grant Opportunity application is now open. This grant will allow institutions to be “reaching more first-generation college students or graduates; engaging more stakeholders; launching new first-gen-specific events or initiatives; and/or providing additional services around FGCC.”
According to the NASPA site, “Individuals may also volunteer to review submissions to gain unique insight into the national landscape of #CelebrateFirstGen efforts to aid NASPA’s Center for First-Generation Student Success in increasing the reach of promising celebratory programming across institutional types.”
“Please note: Institutions who received funds through the 2022 First-Generation College Celebration Grant Opportunity are ineligible to receive funds in 2023. Those who received funds in 2021 or earlier are eligible to apply for funds through this application.”
The Collaborative encourages all who are eligible to apply and take advantage of this great opportunity. We wish you the best of luck applying for this grant and welcome the opportunity to chat further if we can support your first-generation college celebration planning and implementation.
